Refreshed website for HJ Johnson

Hot on the heels of our most recent e-commerce release comes a refreshed website for HJ Johnson, a multi-award winning independent jewellers from Devizes in Wiltshire.

We’ve worked with Rachel and Ruth at HJ Johnson for several years and had created the first version of their website back in 2018. Although an e-commerce site from the outset, Rachel wanted to consolidate the products showcased in the online shop and focus on their best-sellers. She also wanted the website to focus on encouraging visitors into the Devizes store, and to advertise a new bespoke ring-design-and-build service.

The old site ran on WordPress and WooCommerce. which are our platforms of choice for e-commerce websites, and with the project requirements as they were we saw no reason to change that.

As with most of our projects, we started by developing a wireframe for desktop and mobile, focusing on ways in which we could make it easy for visitors to find the shop and locate its contact details and opening hours.

From there, we created a bespoke design for the site, hand-built the template files and set up the e-shop. We then exported the products from the old store as a CSV file, and re-imported a modified version of this file to the new site.

Whilst we (sadly) can’t take credit for it, the new site features a very nicely put together ‘ring builder’ – an interactive tool through which visitors can design their own wedding and engagement rings. It provides a multitude of choices for style, size, colour and stone setting before showing a photo-realistic 3D rendering of your ring.
