Freelance developers

As a growing business, we’re always looking for experienced and passionate WordPress developers to bolster our in-house development team.

Depending on your skill set, we’d like you to be responsible for both back-end and front-end development, creating WordPress themes and plugins. You’ll know a good user experience when you see one and will instinctively think about the best ways in which our customer administrators will be able to maintain their content over time.

Hopefully you’ll be able to demonstrate through a portfolio your development experience in a WordPress and PHP environment.

We want you to contribute to our best practices way of working and it would be nice if our other developers could contact you for guidance and to help solve problems too.

We have natural flexible working and family-friendly policies which fit well with a freelance lifestyle.

Our project managers always provide well-written scope documents and (where needed) high-fidelity designs and low-fidelity wireframes.

Interested? Send us your CV and a covering email and we’ll be in touch.

Freelance developer duties and responsibilities

These are some of the things we might ask you to do:

  • Add new features and functionality to existing websites.
  • Meet with clients (alongside our Project Managers) to help scope new projects.
  • Create effective, responsive designs and turn them into working themes.
  • Build/edit/extend plugins to cater for bespoke features required on client websites.
  • Contribute to best working practices.

  • Good understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery.
  • Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications.
  • Experience designing and developing responsive websites.
  • Ability to convert comprehensive visual designs and wireframes into working HTML pages.

  • Experience of writing custom plugins or modifying existing ones.
  • Understanding of PHP back-end development.
  • Understanding of database technologies such as MySQL.
  • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
