What’s in what’s out?

The net is changing at an incredible rate and some things that worked before with website SEO no longer apply.

Where keywords and on page phases used to help with a websites ranking these no longer apply. Only keywords in the titles or descriptions are now ranked by Google.

Yahoo, Bing and some of the others still use these key words but Google do not. Links used to be important and designers would put keywords and phases into the body text on web pages. Google have found that unscrupulous web designers were purchasing large amounts of links, from link farms, and embedding them into footers on websites. This practice has now been banned, and a link will only make a difference if it’s included in a piece of relevant text about that subject.

There are many companies claiming to guarantee 1st or 2nd place listing on Google but unless you have a large budget and a unique products or service the likely hood of your business being Number one for any period of time is unlikely.

Pink Fish Associates are Different?

Pink Fish Associates are based near to Hungerford on the Berkshire / Wiltshire borders. Ideally located to service the M4 corridor from Bristol to London. We design, build, maintain and host various types of websites from small brochure sites to large ecommerce shops. We know that there are many web designers in the UK and some do a fine job and some don’t.  But all of these designers vary greatly in what they offer and the prices they charge.

At Pink Fish Associates we like to keep it simple, there are Graphic Designers that design and build websites from a design point of view and Technical Developers that build websites from a functional perspective. Sadly both are not good at both parts. Designers are not technical and Techies typically are not creative in design. At Pink Fish we know the answer is simple? Split the job into sections and use the right person to do the thing they are best at and do very well.

Best of Both Worlds

We use the best of both to produce stunning designs, but have high functioning architecture and can be found on Google and be a good return on your investment. It’s a simple as 123 Design, Functionality, and Visibility.

Our clients are typically small independent companies and businesses that have tried the “Web in a Box”. Or they have had a friend or family member create their first website and it hasn’t preformed well. Or it  just isn’t professional looking enough to represent your business and allow you to show it off and be something you can be proud!

Alternatively you may have invested several thousand pounds in your website a few years ago and are reluctant to change it as the cost was a big investment. Are you are still paying for a high hosting or maintenance package and you don’t see your web designers unless it’s renewal time… sound familiar?

Baileys Coaches recently received a call from Chris Evans’s PR team asking if they would provide coaches for Children in Need.

Emma the owner was delighted to be asked if alittle upprised to get the call, being a local coach company and not a national one. She had a conservation about dates times and fees, and in closing asked why they had been selected from the hundreds of coach companies in the region.

The PR lady simply stated that the Baileys Coaches website was so clear and easy to use that they had no hesitation in calling Baileys to help with Children In Need.

A simple and positive example of how  a Pink Fish website can attract quality business.

Its easy when you know How?

The problem with many websites is that there is always a 3 way battle between the visual Design, the technical functionality and the SEO compliance.

Some Technical designers design purely with SEO in mind and consequently the layout fits all the compliance and is Google friendly, but lacks some of the visual impact and tend to look like every other website designed in this way.

The other end of the spectrum is a beautifully stunning website that is full of graphics and incorporate flash and trendy plug ins, but can be seen by Google and is never found unless you know the URL.

The answer is to use all three tribes and have a project manager sit in between the web producers and the client to achieve the best of all worlds. Not an easy task, as designers by nature are passionate about design, Techies and SEO people don’t see the point in pretty pictures if they can t be seen by Google.

But there is a another element to this argument, in that is not about design or functionality is about marketing! Its really all about getting business enquires. This is the main and most import role of a website. It’s great to have a pretty website and create a good customer experience and its important for it to be seen and found on Google.

But if the website isn’t leading to genuine good quality enquires from customers, that wish to purchase your goods or services. Then it’s not a good investment and isn’t doing its job.

If your business isn’t getting at least one enquiry every week from your website? Then it needs looking at by a professional firm that knows how to pull all the elements together and make the website earning its keep.

Top 5 tips for Great Website design

February 7, 2011 by patrick · Leave a Comment

1. Title – Make the title dazzling. A Web site title such as “Welcome to our Web Site” is not very catchy. Without a powerful title for your Web site your visitors won’t click on it or go further into your website and your pay per click fee will be wasted on a “Bounced” customer.

2. Columns – How many columns you use in your Web pages changes your whole Web site structure. Choose carefully between 2 and 3 columns, depending on how much text you have and the number of boxes and pictures, featured on your home page. Read more
